March 21, 2016
So yesterday we getting back from an appointment in south Phoenix and
stopped by one investigator that we had but she wasn't there. A member
joined us for that appointment. So because we were in the area we went
and stopped by our Branch Mission Leader's house and elder Jackson and
the member went in to tell him that the lesson he was going to join us
for later was cancelled. Elder Weber and I went across the street to a
man that him and Elder Hearne had contacted and referred to the
English missionaries to teach him but they haven't been teaching that
man so we went to visit him and give him an Easter pageant card. He
wasn't there so we dropped off the card and walked back to our BML's
apartment. In front of his apartment were 5 kids that looked like they
were Charlotte or Brysons age. They were dressed like mini gang bangers. We
walked over to contact them and they started walking away. They said
"h (word) naw we don't want any of that s (word)" and I said the first
thing that came to mind, " Hey shake our hands we want to be your
friends!" One of them said "h (word) naw I ain't shaking your hands
you can shake my a (word) n (word)!" Then they ran away and we said "
alright have a great day!" And the one who cussed yelled back " you
too!" And then a man who saw us drop off the Easter pageant card
randomly walked to us and gave us Coke zeros. Not a member or
anything, he thought we were helping his neighbor and thought we'd be
thirsty so he gave us some soda. We're going to contact him again this
week.
What I learned from this? Don't take it personally when when people
don't like you and cuss at you. Because that won't do any good. Just
joke about it and talk to the next person and you will be blessed with
kind people and Coca Cola Zero to cheer you up.

Easter Pageant
March 21, 2016 part 2
Our week was great again! Lots of interesting things happened. We had
service at Manna food bank. Went to the temple for asl night. Taught
lessons this week. One of our investigators is progressing towards
baptism. Her friend invited her to go to her church but she told her
she want interested because she is Mormon. Cool right? We drove down
to Yuma but all of our people we were going to meet and teach weren't
there it was alright though because we will see them this next week
and we had chick fil a while we're down there. I missed chick fil a.
We went to the Easter pageant every night for asl. It is really
amazing. Very well practiced and put together. Our branch went on
Friday to the pageant. The Phoenix asl elders went on Thursday and
Saturday to it and I met Elder Stott who is deaf and served in that
branch as a mini missionary. His family also was there and I got to
meet them. I never have met any other Stotts or Stott until I came on
my mission. Now they're all over the place. We are bringing an
investigator to the pageant tomorrow. We went to globe to give the man
who got baptized 16 days ago the Aaronic priesthood. It's interesting
how God makes things work out. We were planning to go do that on
Saturday but our plans for some reason needed to be changed so we went
Wednesday. We went to his house and he was in his wheelchair which was
interesting because normally he's in his hospice bed. We gave him the
priesthood with the elders that cover that area and their bishopric
member. Everything was good, that was the only visit that went though
that trip. Yesterday at church we were told that he was in a coma, we
were shocked. Then last night around 8:30 he died. He didn't make it
but we know it was his time to go. It is sad but joyous at the same
time. He was baptized only 15 days before his death and he held the
Aaronic priesthood. He was prepared. When we first set up his
baptismal date it was set for the 19th, 2 days ago but it had to be
earlier due to his condition. Everything works out. That is Gods plan.
We think he is in heaven teaching people about the things he learned
just before he died. I look forward seeing him teachpeople just like
he was taught when it is my turn to go.

This week was so good! We had a baptism out in globe. We have been
teaching this man since the first transfer I got here. The program for
the baptism went very smoothly. Because of the fact that he has stage
4 prostate cancer and his age he couldn't walk or stand by himself. So
we needed 4 people to help walk him to the stairs (his wheelchair was
too big to go through the doors and bathroom) so we put our arms under
his armpit and carried him to the font entrance, because of how tight
the entrance to the font was and he couldn't go down sideways, we put
him in a metal chair and there was only enough room for two carrying
him to go down the two sets of stair with 4 steps. The ward mission
leader was one of the four and he carried his catheter bag the whole
time. So after 10 minutes we get him into the font move the chair out
of the way and all four of us needed to help get him submerged under
the water and lift him back up. Elder Jackson performed the ordinance,
we got him down and back up and all of his family and all the many
people who we didn't expect to show up waved at him and did I love you
In sign language to him as they were closing he font doors. Then we
carried him back out again. After he said he felt happy and good and
peaceful. Then because he isn't physically capable of going to church
we got permission to confirm him a member of the church directly
afterwards. This man who got baptized, part of his family told him he
didn't have to do it if he didn't want to, but he insisted. He really
wants to be able to be sealed to his wife and to live with here for
the rest of eternity. This baptism was very very touching to us and
all who came. The spirit was so strong there. Can you imagine being 83
years old, having stage 4 cancer and having all this pain through your
whole body and making the decision to be baptized? This man showed a
lot of faith. Imagine watching an 83 year old man with 3 missionaries
helping and one ward mission leader who is holding your dads,
husbands, friends catheter bag be baptized? Imagine the spirit that
was there. It was a huge testimony builder to me.

Doing service for people on the run..
This week was good again! I went on exchanges with Elder Weber and
Elder Hearne, we call ourselves the dirty hearing kids, and I went on
an exchange with Elder Hearne the day after. Last week we also had a
branch activity with pulled pork sandwiches and then members signed up
to act out Book of Mormon stories. We were involved with the Parkes
family skit, they acted out Lehi's vision, elder Hearne and I were
laman and Lemuel. Then we were involved with a recent convert named
Samuel, we did Samuel the lamamite. He was Samuel and preached to all
of us wicked nephites. We shot at him with weapons, missed then he
said see ya later and jumped off the wall. It was a lot of fun. Then
on Saturday we had service at the Phoenix marathon. Each zone in our
mission had 10 people volunteer, we were lucky enough to help with
that. We were at mile 19 for the marathon and mile 6 for the Half
marathon. We were at the stations where they give out water, Gatorade,
and energy gel packets, elder Hearne and I were at the very beginning
of all the stations. We assigned ourselves to do that so we could be
the first people the runners saw and we would also be the loudest
cheerers. We gave out vanilla energy gels with no caffeine, so as
people ran by we would scream VANILLA NO CAFFEINE!!!!!! Our station
ran out first by a long shot. Many people ran by and said "hey elders"
or "hey it's the missionaries!" One man ran by and said "is that some
of your Mormon juice?!" We found that hilarious. We then helped with
water and ran back and forth handing people water spilling it
everywhere. It was a good service opportunity and lots of fun. Also on
Saturday we went down to globe and San Carlos and taught our
investigator who will be baptized this Saturday, I am very excited for
him. Then we picked up a new investigator referred to us by the elders
in San Carlos. I think she is very interested in learning more about
what we have to teach, her boyfriend is also taking the lessons but
from the English elders. Hope y'all have another good week! I'm happy

Miracles
So this past week was good! I went on exchanges with the Spanish
missionaries, that was a good experience, I understood very little.
But saw many miracles. I also went on exchanges with elder Weber.
Exchanges are always good and I always learn something and see some
kind of miracle every exchange I go on. Something I find very
interesting here is how legal guns are. The other day I saw a man
riding a motorcycle with a pistol strapped to his back. If you are 18
here you can open carry weapons and you need to be 21 to conceal
carry. Also we'll be sitting in our apartment at night and will hear
random gunshots, that are possibly fireworks. I love this area. Also
something that is not very normal for me is how cheap gas is here.
This morning at circle k we saw gas for $1.37 per gallon. Is it like
that at home? We went up to globe this past week and taught out
investigator, he has a baptismal date and will be baptized March 19th.
He has stage 4 cancer and should pass very soon so he hasn't been able
to go to Church at all so we have gotten permission to baptize him in
his local ward. He is a great man I am happy I got to meet and teach
and become friends with him. I am so very excited for Courtney to
arrive home and am sad I will miss her homecoming but I know she will
be well!
Also I got an opportunity to use my broken Spanish, we went to
contact a possible deaf referral and a woman lived there who only
spoke Spanish, I started by saying muy poco and I tried to ask her if
sordo aqui? Meaning deaf here? Then she spoke in Spanish more and said
uno dos tres espanol and pointed to other apartments, I said sordo?
No no espanol. Oh ok ok then said nada sordas? No no, then we left. We
think she is a member and will give her information to the Spanish
missionaries. Fun experience

Hello!! This week was great as always here In the desert! I'm grateful
for the opportunity I've had to serve for these past 4 months. So this
past week we went to Tucson Arizona for a deaf event. It was an
interesting event and we talked with many people. While I was there I
decided to ask the Tucson elders for their mission president's phone
number because I remembered that Nan is related to the president of
their mission but didn't remember how. Turns out he is mom's first
cousin. We talked a little bit on the phone and said he wished he
could meet with me in person, but he was on his way to interviews a
few hours away. But I think I will be able to see him in person within
the next few months I'm here. Thank you so much for all the love and
prayers please send my way! Thank you all for caring about me as I've

What a great week!
Hello!! So this past week was super awesome. We had Elder Andersen and
Elder Clayton and Elder Tilleman come speak to us. Being in the
presence of these 3 men was absolutely amazing. I know with out a
doubt that they are called of God to do his work here on the earth.
And that they are qualified because God qualifies those who he
chooses. The missionary broadcast "Teach Repentance and Baltize
Converts" was great as well too I learned a lot! It was about
hastening missionary work, it was so crazy to think that all the
missionaries around the world were watching that broadcast all in
their own time zones. Missionary work is being changed!! Elder
Andersen and elder Clayton gave talks at that and then 3 days later
they were here! So along with the big changes we will no longer have
transfer meetings! No mission anywhere will have them any more (or
isn't supposed to now). Our investigators are Doing awesome! We now
have several investigators out in globe and San Carlos so we try to go
there 2 times a week. Progressing very well. Asl class has been fun.
We get quite a few people who show up and it is always fun. One thing
I really thought was interesting that Elder Clayton said as he came
was how we are teaching the same thing Jesus Christ was 2000 years
ago. One thing elder Andersen said was now we will be in heaven and
this earth life will feel but like a dream. These two things I learned
go together. Our life's don't last forever, so it is so important to
be obedient and always have Jesus Christ on our lips, teaching that
same gospel that he taught. So as you go about your week I encourage
you all to be an example of what you believe. Think of some people
that are in need of our gospel message and share it with them invite
the missionaries to meet with them, don't be scared, let people use
their free agency and give them an opportunity to repent. Let them
know that their savior and father in heaven love them. I know that
you can help them have joy and peace.

Just keep driving and teaching
Hello everyone! This week was a good week! We traveled out to globe
and san Carlos to try to find more investigators. We taught our
investigator and it went really well. We had zone conference this last
Thursday and it was good. So president Jenkins announced that elder
Anderson of the quorum of the 12 and elder Clayton of the 70 will be
coming to our mission this Saturday the 23rd. I am excited for that,
they both came while I was in the Mtc and I am lucky enough to see
them both and hear from them both again. I think elder Anderson went
to Courtney's mission a few months ago. So we get to both hear from
him. So yes and at the meeting we got tiwi for our car! So far it has
been pretty good! I got to go on exchanges with elder Weber and hearne
and we picked up a new investigator for them at the visitor center.
That was a miracle. Then the day after I went on an exchange with

enjoyed it. I hope by the end of my mission signing will come easier
and be easier to explain things than it is in English, that is what
has happened to elder Weber and I hope will happen to me. Hope you all

Elder Stotts
and san Carlos to try to find more investigators. We taught our
investigator and it went really well. We had zone conference this last
Thursday and it was good. So president Jenkins announced that elder
Anderson of the quorum of the 12 and elder Clayton of the 70 will be
coming to our mission this Saturday the 23rd. I am excited for that,
they both came while I was in the Mtc and I am lucky enough to see
them both and hear from them both again. I think elder Anderson went
to Courtney's mission a few months ago. So we get to both hear from
him. So yes and at the meeting we got tiwi for our car! So far it has
been pretty good! I got to go on exchanges with elder Weber and hearne
and we picked up a new investigator for them at the visitor center.
That was a miracle. Then the day after I went on an exchange with
elder Campbell. It was different going to English for a change, but I

A trip to San Carlos
Sorry not enough time for a weekly email, I hope you all have a good
week. This last week was interesting. We went to the San Carlos Indian
reservation to try to contact a referral. Then we met this drunk man,
it was very Interesting. He fell and we helped him up. And just
slurred all his words. We gave him a restoration pamphlet and had to
leave. He held my hand because he didnt want to fall again, I
basically had to rip it off. It want scary just interesting. Never
encountered someone totally drunk like that before. The smell of
alcohol on him was so awful. He was there because the neighbors were
having a wake where basically it's an all night funeral and everyone
mourns and cries for the dead person. They put up metal plates fence
around their yard so no one can see in. Very interesting. But yeah. If
I got transferred to English then I would want to go to San Carlos
